The Forest v0.0.7 Update - New Tree Houses

Version 0.0.7 of The Forest is now available to download through Steam. The update includes a number of decent additions including the splendid Tree House, medium sized Log Cabin, as well as the addition of two new storage containers.

After a 12 day interlude, players will be pleased to see that v0.0.7 is another "chunky" update rather than an endless list of bug fixes. In particular I like the medium log cabin which requires fewer logs to build and is preferable to the larger cabin which takes an eternity to complete.

The Tree House is the best feature though. It's time consuming to construct but a hell of a lot of fun once you've got your first one built. The devs have designed it well and it looks very authentic with its crude wooden steps leading up to the house, embedded within the trees stump.

This week there's also the addition of two new storage containers. Basic stuff really, but the moveable type will make it easier for players to move from one location to another.

v0.0.7 Main Features

Tree House



Requires: 34 logs, 15 sticks

The Tree House is like a shelter but it's suspended above the ground. You'll need a considerable number of logs and sticks to complete the blueprint but it's worth it. As you can see from the image below, the Tree House is suspended well above ground level and players need to hop onto the wooden steps (like a ladder) to climb inside.

For obvious reasons you'll need to find an appropriately sized tree before you can place the Blueprint. A complete Tree House is fairly small inside, mainly due to the large tree stump protruding through the middle. There's one entrance and a window on the opposite side, making it the perfect lookout post to spot approaching cannibals.

Climbing in and out of the house is a no fuss exercise that won't interrupt your gameplay either.





Medium Log Cabin



Requires: 15 logs

A much smaller version of the standard Log Cabin. The medium cabin is on the same page of the Survival book as the log cabin but it requires only 15 logs to build. You'll notice that it's actually named the Small Cabin even though the devs refer to it as a medium cabin.

Rock Holder & Log Sled



Rock Holder Requires: 8 sticks
Log Sled Requires: 15 sticks

Both of these are storage containers for rocks or logs. The Rock Holder is a new addition, allowing players to store rock supplies whilst the Log Sled is a moveable container that players can take with them as they look to build in different areas of the map.

New Animals

Two new animals have been added to the game. They're the Tortoise and the Racoon. Apart from looking nice and a food source, the two of them don't really add much to the game.

Animal numbers can deplete over time

The final interesting feature is the tweak to animal population and regeneration. If players hunt too many animals in a short space of time then the animal population will not regrow, and could potentially deplete entirely.

Players are advised to hunt animals in small, regular intervals without going overboard.
