Yogscast’s Yogsventures Cancelled - Kickstarter Backers Conned

Once again the crew over at Yogscast have upset a hell of a lot of people again. Their Minecraft rip-off game, Yogventures, which was first published to Kickstarter in 2012 has been ditched. The $570K from backers has been conveniently 'lost' with Kickstarter still taking a nice 10% of the money.

But don't worry, Yogscast say that this is a good thing for you and they're going to give you a nice Steam key for TUG which is a completely different game. This snippet was taken from an email to backers:

"As you may have heard, Winterkewl Games have stopped work on Yogventures - but this is actually a good thing..."

"Although we're under no obligation to do anything, instead we're going to do our best to make this right, and make you really glad you backed the project!"

"So - as a backer or early-access purchaser of Yogventures, we are delighted to be able to deliver a steam key to redeem a full copy of TUG as soon as we can."

Who are the Yogscast

I can't say I'm surprised by this, the Yogscast are well known for annoying people and any Minecraft fan will know the history behind the team. The two main guys, Simon and Lewis, were at one time good friends with Notch and on several occasions were invited to Minecon to host their own panel. It was through Minecraft that they original made their name.

Their foul language and disrespect for the younger audience soon got them banned from Minecon with Notch posting his anger over the incident on Twitter. A string of C words and an attempt to write F U on an autograph was the final curtain to bring down the Yogscast/Mojang relationship.

Immediately following the incident, Simon and Lewis went into hiding. It took them several months to rebuild their channel on YouTube and since then they've brought in a whole bunch of YouTubers to create countless Minecraft videos. It's just a shame that the younger audience doesn't remember the incident and this recent Kickstarter brings back some of the lessons we learned in 2012.
