With the rising popularity of Minecraft, there are now hundreds of free Minecraft mods to download. Some try to improve the game performance such as frame rates or lighting effects, whilst others introduce new maps, weapons and weird creatures. 1. Charlotte

Charlotte is your perfect female companion for Mincraft. She comes with some nice looking hairstyles, cute voice clips and she'll help you out as you explore your new worlds. She'll follow you everywhere and acts just like a human player. She can pick items up and stack them on top of each other. Give her a sword and she can fight for you. Just remember to take care of her though, she needs food!

2. Zombe's mudpack

A range of multiplayer and single player mods that allow you to play Minecraft in new ways. These mods allow you to fly, drive the mine cart, use a compass, create cloud cover, track you paths to help exploration, control critter spawn rate, control the sun, adjust damage control and even teleport from one place to another. Fab!

3. FancyPack

This map pack doesn't introduce any creatures, nor does it give you new guns but it does include a range of great decorationbs. The FancyPack contains a collection of exquisitely decorated furniture and decorations to use in your maps. This mod pack is great for designers who want to give their Minecraft level a touch of class. Includes items such as chairs, tables, wild plants, trees, new food options, candles and much more..

4. MineColony

Create and manage you own colony in Minecraft. Build new structures including lumber jacks hut, miner, fishermans hut, blacksmith and farm. Build roads to allow the delivery man to supply resources and let your colony gather resources for you automatically.

3. SDK Guns

A range of guns to use in Minecraft. They include AK47, MP5, Sniper Rifle, Shotgun, Desert Eagle, Rocket Launcher and Flamethrower. Other utilities include grenades, explosive, flashbang and smoke. One of the best is of course the Grappling hook!

6. Mo' Creatures

A great collection of new Minecraft creatures. Mod pack includes the following; Horse, Ogre, FireOgre, CaveOgre, Boar, Bear, Duck, LionK, Wolf, PolarBear, Wraith, FlameWraith, Bunny, Bird, Fox and of course the Werewolf!

7. Wild Grass

This mod creates a tall grass block that grows on top of other existing grass blocks. Once the tall grass grows it spreads to other blocks near by and grows taller again. This mod really does make the game feel nicer as it removes those jagged edges to make the maps look too blocky. It also gives the maps a sense of depth and allows you to appreciate the world you're in. A great mod.

8. Humans

Adds a collection of humans, both good and evil to Minecraft. These humans include characters such as knight, settler, hunter, elf, bandit and shadow walker. Each of the human characters has unique strengths and weaknesses. Some will hide when the sun comes out and others are not very good swimmers! Each character also has an alignment which is either good or bad (evil).

9. CheffCraft

Adds new food items to Minecraft. If you ever get bored of eating the same old foods in Minecraft then this mod will be right up your street. It adds the following new foods to the game; Fried Egg, Cheese, Flour,Dough, Raw Bread, Bowl of Water, Raw Apple Pie, Bowl of Milk, Apple Cider, Healing Essence, Water Bottle, Donut, Fish Meal and many others..

10. MoreCreeps AND Weirdos

Adds some more interesting creatures to Minecraft including; mummy, black soul, invisible man, rock monster. Not that many creatures in this mod but still worth a try.
