Notch's new idea - Minecraft to start tracking your gameplay and collecting information
Posted in
minecraftNotch has just created a new poll to ask users to vote on the possibility of Minecraft tracking your gameplay. Judging by the results, most of you are in favour of the idea.
It's amazing how Notch (and Mojang) managed to stay tuned to what players wanted from Minecraft. There's never been any tracking for Notch to pull together statistics - only logins and log outs. That doesn't tell him much about what people like in the game. Thanks to their excellent social profiles and community interaction, they've done pretty well so far without it.
As Minecraft grows and the direction of new features becomes ever more important, it comes as no surprise that Notch wants to start tracking your gamplay to find out what you like in Minecraft. Is it single player, creative or SMP online with friends? Notch has stated that data collected would be anonymous and not contain private or sensitive information, only what you enjoy doing. If there's one man we can trust - it's Notch.
Poll Results
Since the poll went live, the tracking system has really sparked some great ideas from the Minecraft community. Most of you want to see a comprehensive player statistics system. You'd know things such as how many miles you've travelled, how many skeletons you've killed and your total game time. The game time stat would be scary though!!
We also say YES to the tracking idea. Just make sure there's an opt out button though so if you want to take part you can, otherwise you play privately as normal.
