Notch confirms Minecraft Final Release is ready

Posted in minecraft

3 days before the official Minecon event in Las Vegas and we've already got access to the Final Release version of Minecraft (RC1 and RC2). It's the end of Beta for good and the start of something bigger for Notch and the team.

So it's been a year since Minecraft evolved its way through the Beta stages. Each Beta version brought us some amazing changes. You'll all remember the day the Adventure Update completely changed the way we played Minecraft for good. With the addition of Jeb (a great programmer) and the growing team at Mojang we all experienced regular updates, new ideas and an evolving game that was like clockwork. This really was the sign of a good indie game, not plagued by marketing or pressure from above.

Is the final release the end of Minecraft?

Put simply, NO! You can expect the final version of Minecraft to be the beginning of a bigger Minecraft experience. Notch has always believed that add-ons and expansion packs would let players enjoy the game in new ways. We've only just started seeing new mobs introduced to the game. Think about the Endermen and Dragons and the impact they had. There is only room for more great monsters and content to come!

We might see boss monsters in the future, expansion packs that allow trading and maybe even clans. The options are unlimited..

Minecraft on other platforms

The mobile industry is getting bigger every day and there's already a mobile version of the game for Android. When that gets patched up to the same level as the PC version (there are no mobs at the moment) things will really take off.

Minecraft is also heading for Xbox consoles sometime in the new year on the XBLA service.

Notch is a hero

Notch has become the figure head of the Mojang team with his well known hat and beard combo. He's also a really normal guy who has become famous for taking an idea and believing in it. So hats off to the man and we wish him luck in the future..
