No Minecraft 2 Sequel from Notch
Posted in
minecraftFollowing the recent BAFTA awards in the UK, Notch was interviewed about the future of Minecraft and the secret games he's working on. Notch confirmed that Minecraft 2 will never happen and the existing game will be constantly expanded.
Notch isn't a big fan of sequels, in fact he prefers to create new games rather than attempt to recreate the success of originals. Jeb (the lead developer for Minecraft) will continue to take control of the game and transition its evolution. One such feature coming soon is the new Mod API which is going to be an official mod interface for developers to plugin their expansions/creations. Until now, ModLoader has been the best counterpart for those installing new mods unofficially.
During the interview, Notch confirmed that he's working on 3 new games. 1 is almost ready and we're likely to see that one coming in Summer 2012. The others are still at the prototype stage and nowhere near ready for release. Notch didn't confirm what the new summer game will be but during a subsequent interview with the BBC morning program, Notch said that he thought that the next game would be set in space. A space adventure game..
Keep your eyes peeled for the next big game from Mojang this summer 2012..
Completely off topic, but you might also like the amazing 2nd Prometheus trailer. It's not called the prequel to Alien but it's got a lot of similarities. Please beware this trailer contains elements of light horror. Enjoy..
