4J Studios have confirmed that the first update for the Xbox version of Minecraft is almost ready and will be released in June. They've published a list of new features which include auto save, more clay and bug fixes for game crashes.
Just to be clear, this is not the update that will bring the Xbox version up to 1.7.3 and introduce pistons. 4J Studios have concentrated on the immediate problems and bugs fixes for this update. Game crashes get the focus of attention whilst the rare clay deposits have also been improved.
Even though it's not 1.7.3, the amount of bug fixes and inclusion of auto save makes it a welcomed addition.
Do I need to create a new world to see the new features?
Some, but not all, of the features will require you to create a new world. These are usually features that are generated when you create a world. So for example, you won't be able to open a saved world and see more clay. You'll need to create a new world so clay is generated using the updated code.
Other features like the disable tooltips, gamertag in splitscreen and autosave will start working immediately.
New Features
- New autosave will save your world at regular intervals of your choosing. Choose between 15 mins up to 2 hours 15 mins. Autosave can also be turned off.
- Sensitivity control settings have been moved into in-game sensitivity and in-menu sensitivity sections.
- Players can change the opacity setting for plasma tv's using the new Interface Opacity slider.
- Gamertag will show up in splitscreen, and players can enable/disable it in the settings.
- New menu option to enable/disable in-game hints.
- New menu option to enable/disable tooltips.
- New co-ordinate display added to the in-game map.
- New help sections added in the How To Play sections for Multiplayer, Sharing Screenshots, and What's New.
- New warning message when players attempt to place lava near the spawn area.

- Fix for server disconnect message appearing when offline or in leaderboards.
- Fix for issue where posting a screenshot to Facebook caused a back out to the main menu.
- Fix for clay generation - there will be more clay! Hurray!

How do I get the new update?
As with all XBLA games, as soon as you start Minecraft it checks for new updates from Xbox Live (assuming you're connected to the internet). Once the update is released, you can just accept the download and your version of Minecraft will be automatically updated. Only takes a few minutes and no manual work required.
