Minecraft Skins for Xbox - DLC Download Confirmed

Posted in minecraft

4J Studios have confirmed that skins will soon be available for the Xbox Edition of Minecraft. By mid July, players will be able to download skin packs (DLC) containing 40+ skins for Minecraft. Expect to see the classic super heroes, film stars and cartoon characters making an appearance.

They've also confirmed that players will be able to download free skins from the Xbox marketplace too. The new DLC will be available when version 1.7.3 of Minecraft is released.

What are skins?

Skins are custom graphics that players can use to customize the appearance of their character. They're hugely popular on the PC version of Minecraft with thousands of online skins to choose from and download. PC players can also create their own skin by using graphics software such as photoshop or even ms paint.

Xbox players probably won't have the same luxury as PC players. All DLC content has to be approved by Microsoft before it's available on Xbox Live.

Skins also form a small part of texture packs. Texture packs traditionally contain custom graphics for all of the Minecraft elements including mobs, blocks, items and even inventory screens.

It's nice to see that 4J Studios have stayed true to their word on the idea of having custom skins. Maybe we'll even get texture pack DLC soon too!
