Minecraft Mod API will not be included in Minecraft 1.3

minecraftFor those of you who dabble in Minecraft mod development (good on you by the way), bad news is you're going to have to wait a little longer for the official mod API. It's been confirmed that the API will not be included in the next big release - version 1.3.
According to Mojang and the ex Bukkit team, the mod API is currently scheduled along with Minecraft 1.4. As you probably know, the new API will provide developers with an official platform for creating and publishing their mods for Minecraft. It'll save players the hassle of downloading additional tools (such as ModLoader) to make those mods work. An API would also mean that Minecraft administrators could update to the latest version of Minecraft with a reduced risk of incompatible mods.
Until Minecraft 1.3 is released, you can expect to see more of the regular snapshots (which we'll have download links for). Unfortunately for developers, you're going to have to test and adjust your mods to fit in with the new changes in the meantime.
A reasonable estimate for the release date for the mod API will be around June/July.
