Minecraft hieroglyph blocks are back! New features coming to Minecraft

It's the final update before Minecraft 1.3 and we've got the re-introduction of hieroglyph blocks coming our way. These ancient stone blocks have carvings on their sides similar to those you'd expect to find ancient Egypt. Hieroglyph blocks will probably pave the way for new ancient buildings and tombs.

So Jeb's back from his travels in the Untied States and he's already up to 5th gear. We've got some early news on what to expect from the final update before Minecraft 1.3. The re-introduction of hieroglyph blocks sparks off the ancient Egypt rumours once again. These new textures contain carvings that include a creepers face, a person and what appears to be a mummy (although this was later removed).

Now that Hieroglyph blocks are coming what might be next?

• Pyramids in desert biomes
• A new mummy mob
• Ancient tombs
• Burial areas with secret treasures

A note of caution..

It's possible that Jeb mistakenly added the mummy face which was later removed to avoid spoiling the upcoming features. Even if the rumour turns out to be true I wouldn't expect to see the new mummy mod anytime soon because Jeb has only just come back from his holiday.

The new 1.2.4 version of Minecraft will be released sometime on 22nd March 2012.
