Minecraft Christmas Surprise - Christmas Presents and Skis

minecraftIf you've got your hands on the latest 1.4.6 update for Minecraf then you're in for a treat come Christmas day. Jeb and the rest of the Mojang crew have hidden a secret surprise that only appears at Christmas time.
What is the Christmas surprise?
The surprise is a collection of seasonal features including:
- Christmas presents - chests that are decorated like presents
- Skis - the new decorative texture, hidden in the update
When can I see the Christmas surprise?
We've decompiled the code and discovered that the Christmas surprises are activated on the 24th, 25th or 26th of December. On these days the usual chest texture is replaced by largexmaschest and xmaschest - these refer to the standard and large chests in the game. There is no reference to the skis but we might have just missed that part of the code.
What do the skis do?
The skis are a mystery thus far. Some believe that they'll be similar to clothing (armour) and you'll be able to wear them. Once put on, the skis might allow you to walk through the snow faster than your normal running speed. You might even slide downhill in snow biomes.
Other fans believe that the skis are simply a new texture for minecarts or boats that change the visual appearance only.
No one really knows what to expect from the latest update and the only way to find out is to make sure you play Minecraft on your Christmas holidays!!
