Minecraft Achievements and Stats

Notch talks about the new Minecraft achievements and stats system in his latest release. Rather than having boring achievements like "cut down 10000 trees", we've got achievements like "ride a pig off a cliff"! All Minecraft players will get their stats uploaded to the Minecraft servers automatically.

Even if you play offline, the new version of Minecraft will automatically sync your stats the next time you're online. Achievements and stats will be available to all players via the minecraft.net website and players can view stats and achievements for any other Minecraft player.

Beware though - Notch mentioned that because it's easy to run your own server and cheat, the stats may be skewered by the cheaters!

Minecraft 1.4 Features

Notch also mentioned another new feature for Minecraft 1.4 - Wolves! These little animals are tameable so they'll follow you around and work as pets. Wolves are fairly rare but once tamed they won't disappear (despawn).
