Minecraft 1.8 Release Date and PAX
Posted in
minecraftNotch has given the strongest hint yet on the release date for Minecraft 1.8. Looks like the Adventure Update will be playable at PAX 2011 between August 26th and 28th. And a beta release for version 1.8 will follow shortly after - taking it into September.
Notch tweeted on July 12th that the Minecraft Adventure Update will be playable at PAX 2011. For those of you that don't know, PAX or the Penny Arcade Expo, is a semi-annual gamer festival held in Seattle and Boston. This year, the PAX expo called PAX Dev 2011 and PAX Prime 2011, take place at the end of August.
PAX has been going for over 7 years now and it consists of the usual keynote speeches, game panels and exhibitor booths from both independent and major game developers and publishers. The original and first PAX (back in 2004) showcased the yet unreleased Halo 2 and Ghost Recon 2 games. Both big sellers at the time.
This year (2011), Mojang have got their own booth at PAX, giving players the first chance to play and beta test Minecraft 1.8 The Adventure Update. It'll be the first chance for the public to play version 1.8 and will surely provide Notch with some clues as to whether he's taking Minecraft in the right direction.
