Minecraft 1.7.4 Goes Live - New Baby Zombie Chicken Jockey Mob

Mojang have officially shipped Minecraft 1.7.4 out to the community. Not one of the largest updates ever, but one which puts the Twitch broadcasting into a major version and out of the snapshot cycle. There's also the inclusion of a secret mob - the Baby Zombie Chicken Jockey!

Apart from the Twitch stuff, we also got a big fix for render distance, which was previously limited to 8. You'll notice the change much more in single player, and boy does it make a big difference in 1.7.4!

So back to the interesting feature - Baby Zombie Chicken Jockey. Originally included in snapshot 13w49a, this rare mob is very cute, highly dangerous and a hell of a lot of fun. Just checkout the video below and you'll see why!!

So why is this guy dangerous, it's just a chicken right? Wrong! Here are a few reasons why:

Mob takes no fall damage
Zombie controls the chicken and hence becomes an aggressive mob
Chicken moves at high speed while using zombie attacks to inflict damage
Jockey can track you at great distances
They fit through 1 block high spaces

How to kill the Baby Zombie Chicken Jockey

You can use regular tactics to kill the new mob in 1.7.4, just as you would to kill a regular zombie. Because of their high speed, melee attacks are the most accurate and reliable.

Most players don't realise that you can also run far enough away from the jockey to make it despawn. Once despawned, the baby zombie will be gone but the chicken stays behind.

How rare are they?

Very rare is the basic answer to that one.

There's a 0.05% chance of a zombie spawning as chicken jockey. So you need to multiply the chance of a zombie spawning with the chance of a chicken jockey. So taking that huge improbability, you should look to create a farm that filters mobs.
