Minecraft 1.7 and 1.8 Features - Pistons, Adventure Mode

Notch's latest statement sheds some light on the new versions of Minecraft. By the sound of it, Minecraft 1.7 is going to be released this week and will contain the long awaited pistons block but Minecraft 1.8 could be several weeks away. Notch is working hard on the adventure update at the moment and this will slot into version 1.8.

Minecraft 1.7

Release date: wk of 27/06/2011

This will be a smaller release containing only the pistons block and bug fixes.

Minecraft 1.8

Release date: Mid July.

A big release containing the new Adventure update (this is not the same as adventure mode). Adventure mode was formally known as the Dungeons and Levers mode, but Notch has made it clear that version 1.8 will contain more adventure features and not an entirely separate mode. This will encourage players to earn rewards and achievements through normal gameplay.

The Minecraft adventure update focuses on exploration and combat.

The final release

After version 1.8, Notch will work towards the final release on Minecraft. This is likely to be the end of Novmember rather than the previous date of 11/11/11.
