Minecraft 13w18 Features - Horse Armour and Saddle Recipe Removed, New Coal Block

Minecraft 13w18 is now available through the new launcher. The snapshot contains a large number of bug fixes but also some extra features including coal blocks, new texture loading system and the missing crafting recipes for lead and hay bales.

Horse amour now in dungeons

The major change in this snapshot is the removal of horse armour and saddle recipes.

Unfortunately, the crafting recipes have been removed and you'll need to find armour and saddles in dungeons instead. This is a strange decision by Mojang and surely one which will frustrate most players.

Horses have been a great addition in Minecraft 1.6 and now that the essential crafting recipes have been removed, there's an unnecessary (and long winded) step to riding horses. Also, if you turn off the structure generation option, then dungeons will never appear!

How to craft a horse lead

A lead is crafted from 4 x string and 1 x slimeball:

How to craft coal block

You need to combine 9 x coal to create the coal block. They're great for conserving space in your inventory or storing blocks of coal together.

How to craft hay

Hay is made from 9 x wheat. They are used to feed horses.

How to download

To download the snapshot just open the launcher and select 13w18c from the drop down menu. The launcher will automatically install the new snapshot for you.
