Minecraft 12w50a - 3D Items, Firework Sounds - New Features to Expect

Minecraft snapshot 12w50a should be ready to download soon and we've got a pretty good idea what's going to be included. Expect to see new 3D trickery that makes 2D items look 3D - unofficially inspired by the 3D items mod. Those missing firework sounds that were omitted from last weeks snapshot should be included together with tweaks to the behaviour of mobs when fireworks are set off.
3D items mod becomes official
Most Minecraft fans will have played around with a few mods in their time and the 3D items mod is probably on the list. Thanks to Dinnerbone (once again) the 3D items effect will become an official part of Minecraft starting in 12w50a.
The owner of the existing 3D items mod commented on his minecraftforum thread that he was never contacted by Dinnerbone and shouldn't take any credit for this feature.
We say no! He thought of the original mod idea and should be recognised..so well done sir!
The new 3D effect only works when you have your graphics setting on
Fancy. It doesn't work on the tiny render distance (which still shows items in 2D). This was done to prevent the 3D effect from impacting gameplay on low spec computers. So if it's not working, just flick over to fancy and it should sort things out.
Firework tweaks and sounds
Also heading our way in 12w50a are the missing firework sounds - expect to hear lots of realistic bangs and booms as you set off those rockets. There's also speculation that mobs will be affected by fireworks in the latest snapshot. Wolves and ocelots will probably run away when they hear the bangs.
