The new Resource Pack didn't make it into 12w22a so you don't need to worry about converting your texture packs to the new format just yet. Instead of the breaking changes, we got a small collection of bug fixes included in 12w22a, mostly focusing on horses.

Don't expect any new features in this snapshot because there aren't any! It's one of those snapshots that you can easily skip over unless horses are of importance to you.

Main bugs fixed:



  • Sleeping glitch while in Minecart
  • Horses climbing ladders and vines
  • Horses eating underwater
  • Horse armour losing enchantments when dropped
  • Crashes due to corrupt png texture packs
  • Horses running slowly in creative mode
  • IllegalStateException: Server tried to update attributes of a non-living entity

During this week's Tweeting frenzy, Nathan confirmed some of the ideas behind Resource Packs. It seems that resource packs will provide the basis for a lot of customisation without the need for any mods.

Players can change things like in-game music or even the end credits by simply switching resource packs. The vanilla resource pack will be the default pack that Minecraft uses. Players will need to either create their own packs or download community packs.

Without code, these resource packs are simply configuration containers that the game picks up and uses at runtime. They're a good idea and I suppose it opens the door for a lot of nice downloadable 'packs' which won't conflict with the code like some mods can.
