ITIL v4 release in 2011?

There have been no official announcements regarding ITIL v4, but the ITIL Update Project just announced that they are working their way through v3 to improve the relevance of the core modules. This is the first big change to ITIL v3 since its launch in 2007.

Will the ITIL update affect the ITIL v3 exams?

They say that the core principles and processes of ITIL are not changing drastically and ITIL v3 exams will be unaffected. So, if you are currently studying for the ITIL exams, then you should continue to do so as normal.

The ITIL Update Project are reviewing the Service Strategy module first and will move onto the Service Strategy Lifecycle next.

Is this the start of ITIL v4?

Its unclear if this be an update to the v3 framework or the start of ITIL v4. In any case, it's expected that this update will be released in the summer of 2011.
