Download Minecraft Snapshot 12w27a - Final snapshot before 1.3

12w27a is now available to download. It's been labelled as the final snapshot before Minecraft 1.3 and as in recent weeks it's a collection of essential bug fixes and performance improvements to keep Minecraft running as smoothly.

As this is the last snapshot before 1.3, we won't be seeing any new features between now and the 1st of August. This was confirmed by both Jeb and Nathan.

So if you're an avid Minecraft fan then you'll want to download 12w27a and give it a try. Direct download links are shown below. As for installation, it's a simple case of replacing your .jar file with the new one you download. Mojang need all the feedback they can get on this one, it's you guys who make Minecraft what it is today.

The time between Minecraft 1.2.5 and 1.3 has been the longest update interval to date and that's mainly down to the fundamental change to how multiplayer works. These snapshots are still trying to improve that experience. There's also the issue of black regions in Minecraft and Mojang are struggling to find a way to fix this issue without hurting framerate. Let's hope they do and we'll see Minecraft 1.3 released bang on time - 1st August 2012.

Check your piston contraptions still work ok. Mojang have tested thoroughly, but some require changes to repeater delays and similar. Overall, pistons should have fewer bugs, but will appear to update slightly slower.
