Download Minecraft Snapshot 12w22a - Trip Wire, Pause, Adventure Mode, Better Trading

Another of the beefy Minecraft 1.3 snapshots is here. You can now download snapshot 12w22a and get your hands on some of the excellent improvements from Jeb and the rest of the Minecraft team. This snapshot contains updated trading, rebalanced enchantment system and a new redstone activating block - trip wire!!

The new trip wire block is going to make for some excellent Minecraft games, especially in SMP. We're also loving the new Adventure game mode - that one was a surprise addition. Trading has seen more refinements after its initial debut last week and the enchantment system has been rebalanced with maximum values for enchantments.

Pause is also a welcomed addition, no more creeper deaths when you nip out for a snack! Good work Jeb!

What is Adventure Mode?

The new adventure mode is designed for Adventure Maps. When in adventure mode, players can’t break any blocks. This prevents players cheating their way through the story or accidently destroying part of a puzzle.

How to create a trip wire?

Trip wires are made from 2 hooks and 1 piece of string. Place the hooks on the sides of trees, other blocks, walls etc. Then place the string between the two hooks (make sure there is a clear line of sight between the two). Only one piece of string is required.

Now you can add redstone to power a TNT, pistons etc. Just place the redstone next to one of the blocks that has a hook on it. Create a trail as long as you like, leading up to your TNT or piston. If you’re making a trap then you’ll need to estimate the speed of the mob vs the time to explode, unless of course you’re going to trap them in a room or corner. Make sure there’s no gaps between the redstone.

Important: Jeb's added a warning to the Mojang website that informs players that snapshots are work in progress builds. Only use them if you want to try the new features before an official version is released! Save worlds can be destroyed (which you should know anyway and have backed them up) so be prepared!

Villager trading has been improved
Enchantment system has been adjusted to make it more balanced. There are now max values and the bottom value is always the max value (e.g. pickaxe has max 30)
