Download Minecraft 12w50a - New Thorns Enchantment, Firework sounds

Minecraft 12w50a is now available to download from the Mojang website. As we predicted it comes with new firework sounds and 3D items but it also comes with the new 'thorns' enchantment. Various bug fixes are also included as well as a warning message for anyone still using Java 5 (1.5).

What is the thorns enchantment?

The new enchantment is both a defensive and offensive enchantment that you can use on chests (armour). It will deal a certain % damage back to the attacker when they hit you, thus inflicting damage on themselves. The name thorn implies sharp spikes, just like thorns on a rose bush.

• Fireworks effects have been tweaked

• Corrected how enchanted books work, and added them to villagers and chests

• New tool highlight when switching items in the hotbar (inventory)
