0x10c is Officially Dead - Notch Gives Up on Game Development

After the amazing success of Minecraft it looks like Notch's Minecraft sequel called 0x10c is officially dead. During a Team Fortress 2 livestream, Notch revealed that development for the game had stopped and he won't be pursuing a second game. This doesn't come as much of a surprise to us really and Notch has made the right choice.
Even though many gaming sites put 0x10c in their 'most anticipated games of 2013 lists' (pcgamesn.com you're guilty of sucking up there!) it was quite clearly a dreadful game and nowhere near the level of Minecraft. It had very poor graphics, gameplay was recycled from other FPS games and it brought very little to table in terms of uniqueness.
A poor mans version of Minecraft with lazer guns
Anticipation for 0x10c was huge back in 2012, after all it was the first game by the creator of the decade's most successful game. The first TwitchTV livestream for 0x10c was watched by millions of Minecraft fans from all corners of the world.
But that's probably when the reality sunk in for Notch..
I can remember watching the livestream and being constantly distracted by the vast number of negative comments. You've always got an idiot of two who need to post abuse but there was a barrage of negative comments from ordinary fans.
I have to say I immediately agreed. 0x10c was too similar to Minecraft and it looked awful.
Time to go back to Minecraft
Notch has made an extraordinary amount of money from Minecraft and he's got no need to pursue a second game. Why would you want to try and top Minecraft…you never would.
So the question is, what do we expect Notch to do next?Jeb and Dinnerbone had been running Minecraft quite nicely up until the beginning of 2013. That was until the horses turned up and things have turned stale ever since. Indeed the latest snapshot comes with sunflowers that tell you where East is...yeah it really has got that bad!
Is it time for Notch to come back to the table and pump out some new ideas for Minecraft? We've certainly missed Notch's input over the last couple of years and I'm sure many of you will agree too.
Whatever Notch chooses to do next, he's been clear that no one will know about it until he's ready. It's a shame but it does make sense, you can't repeat a magic moment like the evolution of Minecraft anymore.
0x10c becomes Project Trillek
If you were a fan of 0x10c you might be delighted to hear that fans have continued the development of the game themselves. The new game is called Project Trillek and it's based entirely on the 0x10c concept (without using the original code).
