Infinite Warfare Zombies - Call of Duty 2016

Infinite Warfare Zombies - Call of Duty 2016

Posted in infinite warfare

Infinity Ward have confirmed that Infinite Warfare will have it's own unique zombies mode; following suit from Treyarch's Black Ops 3 game that released last year. The new zombies co-op mode takes place in a separate universe to Treyarch's but will include the cryptic Easter Eggs that we've come to love.

As many of you will know, Infinite Warfare is the next Call of Duty game coming in November 2016. Set in a futuristic timeline, deep in space, it's leaning further towards Halo than any of the previous COD titles we've seen before. Many fans had wished for a throwback to a classic World War 2 setting but once again we're off to the future this year with Exo's a high probability.

It seems that any new COD game has to come with some form of zombies these days, almost certainly to mimic Treyarch's zombies mode which is now in it's 8th year and still going strong. In Advanced Warfare we had Exo Zombies which most will admit was a poor copy of Treyarch's. Ghosts did the right thing with Extinction, which may not have been perfect but it was at least a memorable addition to the franchise. With Infinite Warfare having that distinct space setting I expected Extinction to have made a return again this year.

Teaser Image - B Movie Zombies?

The dev team at Infinity Ward treated us to an hour long live stream to reveal the new game with a small chunk of that time reserved for the zombies mode. They praised the work of Treyarch and admired the amount of effort that goes into Easter Egg hunting from the community. Most importantly though, we saw the first teaser image for the new zombies mode.

The image above is that teaser image and let's take a moment to break it down a little:

Infinite Warfare Zombies - 3

First up, notice that this is a film reel and the caption reads "19-ATVI-85". Activision's share symbol is ATVI and once removed from the tag line we're left with 1985. Combine this with the scattered pop-corn, cartoony feel to the image and we might have a B Movie style zombies on our hands. Nothing too serious but it could be something very different!

Also take note of the distinct mention of a separate universe from the devs. There will be no classic characters returning this time around: no Richtofen, Dempsey, Takeo nor Nikolai. This is Infinity Ward's zombies mode and hence any relevance to Treyarch is obsolete.

Modern Warfare Remastered

Modern Warfare Remastered

Zombies aside, whether you like futuristic COD's or not, the Legacy edition of the game comes with Modern Warfare remastered, which in itself is a huge bonus. Many fans will be pre-ordering the game simply to get their hands on the digital copy of COD 4 remastered rather than Infinite Warfare itself. I don't blame them really - I'll probably be doing the same to relive those classic moments in next-gen awesomeness.

Gameplay footage for Infinite Warfare will be shown at E3 2016 - the biggest gaming trade show of the year. We expect to see more from the campaign, multiplayer and possibly a first glimpse of the zombies mode. E3 2016 takes place from 14th - 16th June with many of the pre-event streams being held over the weekend.
